In the men’s Viking Open in Nottingham, British No.5 Jay Clarke lost a close match against the South African fourth seed, Kevin Anderson 6-3 7-6(0). The Springbok showed his experience in the opening exchanges – taking advantage of an edgy Clarke to go 3-0 up early in the match.
Obviously I’m disappointed by the result but I enjoyed being back in Nottingham. Jay Clarke
With British No.1 and top seed Dan Evans watching on, it didn’t take long for Clarke to find his range, but he struggled to make an impact on Anderson’s notorious first serve and eventually lost out in a second set tie break.
Clarke said: “Obviously I’m disappointed by the result but I enjoyed being back in Nottingham. I had a few friends and all my family come to watch today. I love playing this tournament and if I get the chance to I’ll always come back and play here. It’s so close to home, and I love everything about the environment here.”
