According to ABC, Australian Border Force has cancelled Renata Voracova’s visa ahead of the Australian Open and detained the Czech player, who already has played and lost a doubles match at Melbourne Summer Set 1 this week.
Voracova was detained on Thursday and taken to the same immigration hotel as Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, the Park Hotel in Carlton.
A government source familiar with the case confirmed Voracova was informed by ABF officials that she must soon leave the country, but it is still unclear if she intends to challenge the decision.
Voracova is believed to have entered Australia last month with a vaccine exemption granted by Tennis Australia because she had recently contracted and recovered from COVID-19.
Czech diplomats are believed to be in contact with the 38-year-old player, but the country’s embassy in Canberra is yet to comment publicly.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic awaits a court decision on Monday on his appeal against his visa rejection.
