The rumours about Novak DjokovicÈs fitness for the Miami Open, have now been confirmed and he will not be defending his title in Florida.
My doctor has strongly advised against play because my elbow injury
The world number two Novak Djokovic has pulled out this yearÈs second Masters event citing an elbow injury.
"My doctor has strongly advised against play because my elbow injury, that I keep carrying on for months, got worse in the past week," the six time Miami Open champion said in a statement.
"I will do everything in my power to recover and do all the necessary therapy to be able to return on court as soon as possible. Sadly, I won’t be able to defend my title in Miami this week."
He joins world number one Andy Murray on the sidelines, the Briton having announced his withdrawal with a similar problem last weekend.
The SerbÈs loss of 1000 points means that Murray will be extending his lead at the top of the rankings to over 4000 points as the pair arrive in Europe for the clay court season.
