Hobart | Blinkova upsets Bouzkova as quarter-finalists are determined

Russian qualifier Anna Blinkova sent Czech top seed Maria Bouzkova packing at the Hobart International at the Domain Tennis Centre on Wednesday, while Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina set up a quarter-final contest with Sofia Kenin and Bernarda Pera survived a 3-setter against Laura Siegemund.

Blinkova was a 7-5 6-4 winner over Blinkova and will next meet Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 8 seed, who defeated Spanish qualifier Nuria Parrizas Diaz, 6-2 6-3 in the last match of Day 3.

Kalinina, the 5th seed, moved into the quarter-finals after a grinding contest against Germany’s Tatjana Maria, 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Ranked No 40, Kalinina faces Kenin, a former Australian Open champion, for a spot in the semi-finals, who defeated Belgian qualifier Maryna Zanevska, 6-2 6-3, in the 2nd-round.

Meanwhile, American Bernarda Pera, the No 6 seed, too 3 hours to edge out another German, Laura Siegemund, 6-4 6-7(3) 6-4, to advance to the Last 8 where she will meet Elisabetta Cocciaretto next.

Cocciaretto, ranked 67, easily won the all-Italian encounter with Jasmine Paolini, 6-2 6-1, in the first match of the day.

The last quarter-final is between American qualifier Lauren Davis, who got past Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure, 7-6(1) 6-3, and Wang Xinyu from China, a 7-5 4-6 6-3 winner over another Belgian, Alison Van Uytvanck.
