Indian Wells | Edmund wins Challenger
Top seeded Kyle Edmund secured a comfortable 6-3 6-2 win over Andrey Rublev, ranked 31, in the final of the Oracle Challenger Series at Indian Wells, his eighth title at that level.
World number 27 Edmund was playing in his first event since losing in the Australian Open first round in January taking time to rehabilitate a knee injury.
He pulled out of February’s tournaments in Marseille and Rotterdam after he was beaten in straight sets in Melbourne by Tomas Berdych.
His win has also lifted him back up the rankings and the British No.1 is now placed 23.
Unseeded Dan Evans, playing in the same event, reached the semi-finals where he lost out to Rublev 6-2 6-2 having eliminated two seeds en route, namely Denis Istomin (6) and Jason Jung (14). As a consequence he has improved his ranking to 100, continuing to regain the ground he lost when banned for 12 months for testing positive.
