Indian Wells| Norrie gets into main draw

Britain’s No3, Cameron Norrie, world ranked 111, has successfully negotiated his way through the Qualifying tournament to make the main draw of Indian Wells.

He beat Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4 6-2 in 78-minutes to reach the first round of the 1000 Masters.

He beat Spain’s world No23 Roberto Bautista Agut during Britain’s recent Davis Cup tie last month but had never reached a Masters event main draw before.

The 22-year-old faces Japan’s Taro Daniel in the first round on Friday.

The winner of that match will play 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in round two.

Norrie dominated the game against against Stakhovsky with an excellent first serve and survived a break point in the final set to advance.
