London | GB get a home tie

GREAT BRITAIN has been drawn at home to UZBEKISTAN in the 2018 Davis Cup World Group Play Offs. The tie will take place from 14th to 16th September 2018 at a venue to be decided.

Because of the relatively early tie date,  British captain Leon Smith will have the option to choose an outdoor grass court venue such as Eastbourne or Edgbaston. Wimbledon is unavailable at present due to the construction work for the new No.1 Court retractable roof. More likely, though, will be one of the traditional indoor venues such as Arena Birmingham or Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.

Full Play-Off Draw (home nations first):

Japan v Bosnia / Herzegovina

Czech Republic v Hungary

Canada v Netherlands

Serbia v India

Switzerland v Sweden

Austria v Australia

Great Britain v Uzbekistan

Argentina v Colombia

The eight winning nations will qualify for the 2019 Davis Cup World Group, which may be replaced by the ITF’s proposed “World Cup of Tennis” if that scheme is approved at the organisation’s AGM in August.
