Injury has forced Emma Raducanu, the British No 1, to miss Billie Jean King Cup Finals by Gainbridge due to take place at at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow in Glasgow from Tuesday 8 November.
I tried to do everything possible to get it ready in time. Since my last tournament I've been working every day on physical training and rehab. I've got confidence in my team-mates and look forward to playing next year. Emma Raducanu
The 19-year had to withdraw from the Transylvania Open earlier this month because of right-wrist injury, which has not healed in time.
“It’s disappointing to get the news from the doctors that I won’t be ready in time, particularly with it being on home soil,” said Raducanu.
Great Britain has been drawn in a group with Kazakhstan and Spain, with only the winners progressing to the semi-finals.
Raducanu, who made her debut in the team competition in April’s qualifier against the Czech Republic, was selected alongside Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter and Heather Watson, with a 5th player added at a later date, for the Finals.
“I tried to do everything possible to get it ready in time,” added Raducanu. “Since my last tournament I’ve been working every day on physical training and rehab.
“I’ve got confidence in my team-mates and look forward to playing next year.”
As things stand, Raducanu is next due to play against Ons Jabeur in an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi on 16 December.
The 2021 US Open champion entered Top 10 of the WTA Rankings for the first time in her career but then dropped to No 76 after failing to defend her title in New York.
Despite winning only 17 out of 36 matches she has played, Raducanu remained the British No 1 and was set to lead Great Britain at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup.
Her withdrawal is a big blow to British hopes and adds to the no-show of the best player in the women’s game, Iga Swiatek, who felt the scheduling so close to next week’s WTA Finals, was dangerous.
According to reports, Raducanu’s work with Andy Murray’s former fitness trainer Jez Green is going well and it is hoped will overcome the problems she has endured on the tour this year ahead of 2023.
The LTA has invested heavily to host the BJK Cup finals in Glasgow, in which 12 national teams are featured, and GB Captain Anne Keothavong will now be relying on Dart, Watson and Boulter.

emmaraducanu: so sad to miss being a part of this amazing team in the upcoming BJKC! 😔 I am really sorry to miss all of you in Glasgow, I was so looking forward to playing on home soil in front of you🇬🇧 I tried my best to be ready, next time! backing my girls & I’ll be with the team in spirit♥️
Meanwhile, Raducanu, who made more money than Swiatek this year, visited The Parklangley Club in Beckenham, Kent, where she began her tennis journey.
“Started on these courts,” Raducanu wrote in an Instagram post, and 8 lucky youngsters posed with her.
Despite her low ranking, Raducanu came 3rd on the list of highest paid female athletes for 2022, earning most of it from endorsements.
Raducanu continues to rehab with medicine balls and weights, based on photos and videos she posted earlier this week.
