The ITF’s plan to reduce Davis Cup rubbers to best of three sets has been rejected at the organisation’s AGM in Vietnam. The motion received 63.54% support from member nations, but each reform required a two thirds majority in the voting.
ITF President David Haggerty commented: “We respect the decision of the AGM but are disappointed that our member nations have not approved the full package of Davis Cup and Fed Cup reforms endorsed by the ITF Board.”
TENNIS THREADS readers have been vocal in their opposition to the ITFs plans to dumb-down the Davis Cup, and there will be much celebration in British Tennis circles today.
