London | Kvitova gets engaged to her coach

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova announced on social media that she is engaged to her coach, Jiri Vanek, posting an image of the happy couple at the All England Lawn Tennis Club where the Czech left-hander won her two Grand Slam titles in 2011 and 2014.

“Happy news we wanted to share with you guys… I said “yes” in my special place,” were the worked with which she captioned the image on Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday.

Just 3 days after finishing runner-up at a WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, its seems the 32-year is taking a happy break ahead of the US Open which starts on Monday in New York.

Trailing at No 34 in the WTA rankings earlier this year, Kvitova has now climbed to No 21 after finding a rich vein of form on the hard courts of North America.

Kvitova announced her engagement to hockey player Radek Meidl in December 2015, but the couple split ithe following year.

She began working with Vanek in November 2016, announcing the Czech as her coach during the off season.

Vanek, a former professional tennis player himself, who reached a career high ranking of 74, is divorced and has two children from his previous marriage to his first wife Marketa.
