London | Kyrgios pulls out of Laver Cup

Nick Kyrgios will not participate in the 2022 Laver Cup which is scheduled for September at the O2 in London, as he wants to spend more time with his family, the player revealed on Tuesday via an Instagram post which read “No Laver Cup for me this year.

“Gotta have that home time with my family and (my) beautiful girlfriend.”

The 27-year-old Australian, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final last month and is currently playing the Citi Open in Washington, was part of Team World in all four editions of the Cup so far.

This year’s Laver Cup will be held from Sept. 23-25 where the hopes of Team World’s chances will have been hit somewhat dashed by his absence with their captain, John McEnroe having announced already Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz of the US and Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman will be playing for him with two more players still to be revealed.

They will be facing captain Bjorn Borg’s Team Europe consisting of Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray who are playing together as a team for the first time, plus two others.

Team Europe have not lost any of the previous four editions of the Laver Cup.
