London | Murray into last four

London | Murray into last four

British ace Jamie Murray and Brazilian Bruno Soares have reached their second successive doubles semi-final at the ATP Finals at the 02.

And Murray will have to face up to former partner John Peers for a final spot on Saturday. Australian Peers teams up Henri Kontinen.

Murray and Soares sealed their spot by defeating top seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo 6-2 6-4 in 1hr.13min.

The elder brother of former world singles No.1 Andy had been troubled by a back spasm earlier in the tournament but it was clearly not limiting him as he and Soares roared to a 5-0 lead in the first set. The pair squandered three points for a 6-0 scoreline.

Murray double-faulted to gift back a break in the second. And they had to survive three break points in the sixth game before sealing the win.

He said: “We played great again. We knew we’d have to play a really good match to bet Marcelo and Lucasz. Yeah, we knew we were capable of doing it. Obviously playing the way we did on Wednesday gave us a lot of confidence going into this match. I mean, we played great again from start to finish really.”
