London | Serena and Sharapova to play Mario Tennis Aces Tournament

With sporting events around the world cancelled, Serena and Venus Williams are hitting the virtual tennis court to continue their rivalry as they join other IMG top clients, including Naomi Osaka, Kei Nishikori and Madison Keys, to enter the world of the Mario Tennis Aces game exclusively for Nintendo Switch alongside other celebrities in the ‘Stay at Home Slam’ to be broadcast live on Sunday, 3 May at 9pm BST.

The primary broadcast will be streamed exclusively on Facebook via Facebook Gaming and IMG’s tennis Facebook page.

“I am proud our IMG tennis clients came together so quickly to support a multitude of great causes,” said Max Eisenbud, senior vice president of tennis clients at IMG.

“It is a testament to the people we work with across all our divisions that we were able to bring this to life in such a short amount of time.”

Participants will be competing for a $1 million prize in the charity event, which is one of several celebrity streams now using video games to raise money during the coronavirus pandemic that has suspended all professional tennis.

The doubles only tournament will feature 8 pairs:

    • Serena Williams and Gigi Hadid
    • Naomi Osaka and Hailey Bieber
    • Venus Williams and DeAndre Hopkins
    • Maria Sharapova and Karlie Kloss
    • Kei Nishikori and Steve Aoki
    • Madison Keys and Seal
    • Taylor Fritz and Addison Rae
    • Kevin Anderson and Ryan Tannehill

Each participant will be competing from their own homes and will receive $25,000 to donate to the charity of their choice, with the winner getting an additional $1 million to further their cause.

The Stay at Home Slam on Sunday will also feature John McEnroe and YouTuber iJustine (Justine Ezarik) commentating on the event.
