Rome | Nadal to now miss Rome.

It doesn’t look good for Rafa Nadal’s prospects at the French Open as he pulls out of another Masters’ event in his preparations for Roland Garros having also pulled out of Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid.

In fact the likelihood of the 14-time French champion making the draw would seem slim following his announcement on Friday that the hip injury he sustained during his second round loss at the Australian Open, is refusing to heal properly.

As Nadal said on social media:

“Hello everyone! I’m so sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play in Rome. You all know how much it hurts me to miss another of the tournaments that has been so important to me, both professionally and personally, because of all the affection and support of the Italian fans.

“Despite having noticed an improvement in the last few days, it has been many months since I’ve been able to train at a high level and the adaptation process takes time. All that is left for me to do is accept it and keep working. Best wishes to everyone.”

The 10-time champion of Rome, who turns 37 in less than a month, hasn’t missed that tournament since 2004.

Also aout from Rome is the Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who picked up an injury in Madrid.
