Seoul | Pegula conquers Korea

Title favourite and top-seeded Jessica Pegula captured her fourth career title by comfortably defeating China’s Yuan Yue 6-2 6-3 in the final of the Hana Bank Korea Open in Seoul, a WTA 250 level event.

The American ,world ranked 16, lost just one set all week and ended her 3-week Asian swing 9-2 with having also won in Tokyo.

“This one is extra special,” Pegula revealed on social media. “I am half Korean. I don’t speak and I am still learning about my culture (my mom was adopted and left on a doorstep of a Korean police station) but I have been overwhelmed by the support from Korean fans. My mom visited her orphanage here when I played this event 4 years ago.”

It was the first time shef has elt able to talk about her past and he health struggles the past year, made this tournament a goal to win. “It has been such an honor to play in front of you,” she added.

Pegula won eight straight games from 2-1 down in the first to go up 3-0 in the second.

The 53rd-ranked Yue was playing in her first WTA final .
