Shanghai | Edmund scores another win

Kyle Edmund produced another exceptional performance to dismiss Nicolas Jarry in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The British No 1, who has risen to a career-high 14th in the world rankings following his run to the Beijing semi-finals last week, produced another assured performance to score a 7-6(5) 6-3 victory.

Edmund squeezed through a tight first set on a tie break but recovered from falling an early break down to win the second set and secure a place in the last eight where he meets the fourth seeded Alexander Zverev who in turn defeated the Australian teenager Alex De Minaur, 6-1 6-4 in just over an hour to reach his sixth Masters quarter-final of the year but first in Shanghai.

It is Edmund’s second Masters quarter-final of the year having reached the same stage in Madrid only to lose to Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov and he will have to overcome a poor record against Zverev having lost all three meetings between the pair.

The other quarter final places will be filled by Roger Federer playing Kei Nishikori, Borna Coric against Mat Ebden and Novak Djokovic versus Kevin Anderson.
