RAFA Nadal blasted his way into the last 16 at Wimbledon with a 6-1 6-2 6-4 victory over unseeded 19-year-old Australian Alex De Minaur in two hours two minutes.

Tough moments at the beginning and in the third but it was generally positive. I’m happy to be in the last 16 again Rafa Nadal

And he revealed how the support of pal, golf superstar and compatriot Sergio Garcia, one of the sporting guests in the Royal Box, helped inspire him,

The Spaniard said: “It was great to have Sergio there. It was a positive match for me against a younger player who had a lot of energy.

“Tough moments at the beginning and in the third but it was generally positive. I’m happy to be in the last 16 again.”

And the victory ensured the Spaniard would hang on to his world No.1 ranking.

The two-time champion overcame his unseeded opponent on his third match point, having dealt out more than a few lessons to the teenager, who was playing his first match on Centre Court.
