Loyalty is paying off for Cameron Norrie who is becoming “addicted” to winning.
I’ve had a lot of wins which has given me confidence. I’m loving it more and more. I’m becoming addicted! Cameron Norrie
The British No.1 defeated Spain’s Pablo Andujar 6-0 7-6 6-3 in a rain-hit opening-round encounter on Court 2 at Wimbledon
It is the latest win in a year that has brought the ninth seed two titles so far to double his career total.
He said: “I’ve had a lot of wins which has given me confidence. I’m loving it more and more. I’m becoming addicted!
“I’ve stuck with the same team and enjoying the results of it.”
Norrie was close to victory when rain interrupted play.
He said: “That was not easy. I saw the dark clouds coming and someone shouted out ‘get it done before the rain”. I was like “come on, I’m trying to get it done”.
“There was lot of waiting around and it wasn’t the prettiest performance but I got it done in straight sets. I’ll take that and move on.
“I’ve got my parents here and a lot of friends from TCU (Texas Christian University) and home support which is special. Nice to get through.
“I have been enjoying improving, stuck with same team, we have a similar mindset and I’m loving it more and more with the results.”
Norrie faces Jaume Munar, a compatriot of Andujar, who beat Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.
